1 Peter 2:1-3 lays out a challenge for every believer to mature and grow in their relationship with Jesus. It says, "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good."
The 7 disciplines listed on the flip side of this card will help every believer begin to balance out their life and feed their inner soul with the Word of God which will continue to make us into the very image of Christ.
READ THE BIBLE & MEDITATE ON IT: The Bible is God's way of talking to us today. Allow time for it to enter your mind and penetrate your heart. "Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully. 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Timothy 3:14-16; Matthew 4:4; Colossians 3:16; Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119:15; Romans 12:1-2; Proverbs 23:7
PRAYER: How do I pray?
THANK GOD (for who He is and the good things He's already done)
SORRY GOD (for the wrong things you've done and for His strength not to do them again)
ASK GOD (for something for someone else and yourself)
Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-13; Psalm 42:1; Psalm 51:1-12
SERVE: Every believer is called to be a part of a church family and serve both the kingdom of God and the lost. Galatians 5:13 & 6:9-10; 1 Corinthians 15:58; 1 John 3:16-18
GIVE: Our material possessions, money, time, and talent belong to God. These are simply "loaned" to us by Him in order to see how we choose to use them. 1 Corinthians 8:1-5 & 9:6-11; Matthew 6:1-4; Acts 20:25
FASTING: Fasting is a voluntary abstaining from food and possibly drink for a limited period of time that allows us to focus on God during time of stress, grief, sorrow, or seeking God’s guidance, intervention or plan for life. Acts 13:3 & 14:23; Nehemiah 9:1-3
AVOIDING SIN: As we grow in our understanding of what is pleasing and displeasing to God, we grow more toward the pleasing of God and away from the displeasing. In fact we will be attracted more to God honoring things and less to the distractions in the world that take our attention away from God. 1 Thessalonians 5:22; James 1:21; Matthew 7:21-23; Romans 6:1-14; 1 Peter 2:11
TELL OTHERS: We must understand that every living being has a soul that will live forever. Each soul needs God's salvation and forgiveness. Each soul must accept God's grace and be born again. In other words, my faith won't save you and your faith won't save your family. It's an individual decision. Our responsibility is to share in the task of "proclaiming the saving grace" of God. This is called evangelism. Now that you are saved and your soul is cleansed, realize others will die, separated from God if they don't hear about Jesus and accept Him as Savior. It is our responsibility to tell them! 2 Corinthians 5:16-20; 1 Corinthians 9:19-22; Acts 20:19-21; 2 Peter 3:9
