WORK, WORK, WORK
What famous person said, “He who will not work, let him not eat”? Was it a labor union executive? Was it a hard-working farmer? Was it a father who was concerned that his son might be lazy? Was is the creator of the free enterprise system? No, it was the apostle Paul in II Thessalonians 3:10. Paul was all about we Christians growing spiritually. Did you know your work is a spiritual thing?
Being active and productive is a big part of human nature. It doesn’t matter so much to God how much money we make, but that we be active and contributing to the common good of man. I read a book once and the title was YOUR WORK MATTERS TO GOD. It wasn’t so much about what matters to God, as if he cares what you do for a living (although I think He does care). It was about the substance that makes life great or boring.
Matter is a curious word, we use this word in phrases that have nothing to do with matter being a physical object. By the way that is the definition. Matter is ‘the substance or substances of which any physical object consists or is composed:’ But the 7th definition is: matter is ‘something of consequence:’ Our work has a consequence. So here are some common phrases with the word matter… and they all apply to work, I guess you could say they are work matters (consequences):
Work is a ‘matter for serious thought’
Work is a ‘matter of life and death’
Work is a ‘matter of fact’
Work is ‘for that matter’ important to God
Work is ‘no matter,’ that is it is not an object of physical mass, but it ‘does matter’!
The book was about our attitude toward work. For a serious Christian, it is absolutely a part of our reason for being on the planet earth. I think it will be a reason for us to be heaven as well, check out Revelation 20:6. Until we get to heaven to do the work of ‘reigning with Him’, It’s high ho, High ho, it’s off to work we go!
