Do you have friends?  Are you a friend?  Do you depend on people and do people depend on you?  A lot is said about friendship, companions and the importance of people in our lives.  We are probably a product of our friendships more than we think.  So for this important part of our lives, I’d like to consult the Bible for wisdom about friends.

First of all there is no better friend than Jesus (John 15:12-15 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.)  Don’t you think He’d be a good guy to get to know?

Second, a good friend is one who strives for what is right (Proverbs 12:26 One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray)

Third, a good friend is faithful to you (Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity).

Fourth a good friend makes you a better person (Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another).

Did a friend invite you to church this week?  Did it make you mad or glad?  Why do you suppose your friend did that?  Is he nosy, conniving or intruding?  Maybe, but probably your friend has something he’d like you to have…a good friend in heaven.
