What Condition My Condition Was In

In 1967, (the year I graduated from High school) a funny song came out.  It was called What Condition My Condition Was In.  That sounded quite interesting to me.  It was written by Mickey Newbury.  First recorded on October 10, 1967 by Teddy Hill & The Southern Soul.  Jerry Lee Lewis soon covered the song for his album Soul My Way.  Kenny Rogers also sang it and it hit big for him.

I soon found out it was a ‘drug’ song.  Here are a few of its’ words…

I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawling out as I was a-crawling in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

Any one beside me remember that song?  Of course I think drugs are a bad choice, but I also think the premise of the song is worthy of a spiritual exorcise.  What condition is you soul in?  What condition is your Christian endeavor?  What is your state of growth?  Is Jesus gaining in you?  Are you becoming more like Him or less?

I think you get the idea. I just stopped in to see what condition your (spiritual) condition is in.
