Jesus solid rock original

I use to think Matthew 7:24-27 was a cute saying of Jesus that primarily applied to children.  Not any more.  In fact, most children do not understand much about construction.  However, anyone in construction of anything knows how important a foundation is.  If you want to build a life, a marriage, a family, a career, business or anything, the foundation is the place to begin.  Anything built on a faulty foundation will have trouble supporting the upper structure.

So Jesus tells a story about the wise and the foolish.  Each wanted to build a house.  The wise built his house on a rock or a solid foundation.  The fool built his house on the sand, not so solid.  Now I think the fool may have had good reason for building on the sand.  He wanted to be near the water perhaps.  Or maybe the land was flat and easy to get started on.  Or maybe the idea of a sand box at hand was enough to build on the sand.

However, a storm came and it demolished the house on the sand.  But the house on the rock stood firm.  I think Jesus is telling us there will always be storms in life.  Things like bankruptcy, broken relationship, illness and the list go on and on.  Fact: storms are a part of life, so prepare well.  Start with the foundation.

Jesus concluded the teaching by saying, the wise do more than read the Word, they ‘do’ what it says!  The foolish, not so much.

Enough said.
