Kicked by a mule?

Mule original

There is an old saying “when you get kicked by a mule, just consider the source.  It’s what mules do.  A wise person learns this the very first time he walks behind a mule and he never walks behind one again.  An average intelligent man may learn after two or three time.  But eventually he will understand ‘don’t walk behind a mule, if you do you’ll get kicked… it’s what mules do.’  A dumb man will never learn this valuable lesson.  He will keep getting kicked by mules because he keeps walking behind them.  He never learns ‘it’s what mules do.’

Now my transition is going to be tough because no matter how I put it, its’ going to sound like I am calling people mules.  That’s not what I’m about to say even though it comes out that way.  So here it goes, people do what they do because that’s what they do.  A smart person learns quickly what to say and not to say around certain people.  For they do what they do.  They react the way they react.  If however a person is becoming more and more like Jesus, they are harder to read.  You can walk behind them and not get kicked.  Why?  As a Christian kicking is not what we do.  If we can successfully ‘put on Christ’ we will contribute to the kingdom of God in ways that we never thought possible.  Christians in Roman times turned the Roman Empire into the Holy Roman Empire, by their devote citizenship.  Employees with low paying and low responsible positions can honor God and influence an entire business community.  Wives can manipulate (oops mean influence) their husband and likewise the husband their wives.  Christians who ‘get it’ can even turn enemies into friends and fellow believers.

The bottom line is this, Christ-like or mule-like?  Need I say more?
