I DOUBT IT!

How many times have you said, “I doubt it”? I mean today. We say it a lot, don’t we? Someone makes you a promise and you say it. You read a fortune cookie and you say it. A politician makes a campaign promise and you say it again. However I think we say “I doubt it” to the Word of God more than anything else. O.K. maybe we don’t say the words but we say it by our actions. Allow me to give you some examples;
“Do not let your hearts be troubled” John 14:27… I heard you say it… I doubt it too.
“Do not worry about your life” Matthew 6:25
“Consider it pure joy my brothers when you face trials of many kinds” James 1:2
“Do not break your oaths, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.” Matthew 5:33
“If anyone slaps you on the cheek, turn the other one to him also” Matthew 5:39
I’m five-for-five and there are hundreds of these in the Bible. My guess is, not only do you say “I doubt it” you may say “Everybody doubts it.”
This Sunday we start our doubt series. Can We Be Sure God Actually Exists? Isn’t the Bible Full of Myths and Mistakes? Why Do Christians Say that Jesus is God’s Son? Why Does God Allow Tragedy and Suffering? Tolerance, Truth, and the Exclusive Claims of Christ, is He really the only way?
These are really valid questions, not because you or I necessarily doubt these truths. But we know many people who do. In fact, people we love deeply have these questions and doubts. May God’s house be full of people who want to address their doubts and gain a peace that only God can give. Do you doubt that?
