GOD’S DILEMMA

People are often looking for short, quick definitions that get right to the point in a clear and understandable way. I too, like things that way. I’m always looking for those kinds of explanations for Bible doctrines and teachings. I came across this story that explains the purpose for the Bible.
Here we go… Imagine for a moment that it is springtime and you decide to do some spring cleaning. You send the kids out of the house, to not be distracted by them. You muster the energy and to work you go. You had a good day although quite exhausting. You have deep cleaned your house. Wow! Even you are impressed!
But now you have a problem: you can’t let your kids back in the house. You know that as soon as they come in the house will no longer be clean. Kids have a way of tracking in mud, not returning things to their proper place and just plain messing up your hard-wonderful work.
Now that is also God’s dilemma. It is also the Bible claim. Because of our disobedience, our sin, we are no longer able to connect with God as we were created to connect. His perfection demands separation. As the Bible unfolds we see God dealing with the imperfections of His prize creation. That is the Bible in a nutshell.
You might say, the reason we have the Bible, is to understand how God Himself is coping with our sinful nature and all the ramifications our sin has on our own life. He wants us to ‘get it.’ That is to ‘get’ His love. To ‘get’ His forgiving nature. To ‘get’ His wisdom. To ‘get’ His power for living. To ‘get’ His desire for us. To ‘get’ His wanting to have a relationship with us… Really? God really wants a relationship with me? Yes, and He mainly reveals it through His word called the Bible. In the first chapter of John, we are told that the Word of God and God are one and the same (verse 1). We are also told that the Word became flesh (verse 14). Jesus is the Word of God. When you read your Bible, you are connecting with God our Father and with Jesus his Son.
Whatever you need to do to get into your Bible, do it! Someone once said that ‘a person who has a Bible that is worn out at the seams, has a life that isn’t.’ (Get it?)
