GETTING THE HELL OUT

One day Jesus came upon a man who was filled with an unclean spirit.  To say he was disheveled would be an understatement.  Now we don’t know so much about unclean spirits but maybe we know more than we think.  Jesus found out that this man had many evil spirits in him maybe as many of 6,000 of them.  You can read about him in  Mark 5:5-20.  His behavior was bizarre as one might expect.

But I think we may know more about this than we are letting on.  Think about this; how else can you explain our erratic behavior?  Things like violent rages, secret binges, rebellion, maxed out credit cards, internet pornography and the list is just beginning.  Could it be that we still (like the man in Mark 5) have some hell in us?

A glimpse of the wild man in this story reveals Satan’s goal for you and me.  The demon made this man impose pain on himself. And hell makes us hurt ourselves.

The demon made this man obsessed with death and darkness, which is obviously not the work of God but of Satan.

The demon also made this man restless and isolated.  That is no peace and no fellowship.  Sometimes our activities look a lot like the wild man with the unclean spirit within.  We need Jesus to tell these unclean, demonic, unwanted tormentors to leave our lives and head straight for the pigs.  Please Jesus help us get the hell out of our lives.
