Experiencing Him

This will be my theme for the year 2018. Don’t we all want to experience Him? Don’t we all want more of God and not less? We all have different ideas in our minds as to what ‘experiencing Him means. For some it is mystic, weird, spooky and raising the hair on your head fear. For others it is extreme peace and contentment. For others it is a challenge to pursue holiness. To me, it’s a little of all these plus some confusion thrown in.
For truth on the matter, let’s consult the book of truth and let Jesus Himself tell us about experiencing Him… Jesus’ life is coming to an end, He is making one of His final requests to His father in heaven. He zeroes in on His purpose for coming to earth John 17:1-3…
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Did you see it? Jesus tells us what our purpose for living is and how to experience what God wants you to experience on this earth. Jesus came to give us life. His goal wasn't just to prolong our life here, nor was it to just increase the quality of life here. His goal was to give us life that would endure—that would last longer than the mountains, oceans, earth, and sky. What is the secret to this life? To know God and to know his Son, Jesus Christ. This is more than just knowing facts about God and Jesus; it is a relationship and reliance on them in everyday life. It is seeking after God and finding him. It is learning to trust in him with every fiber of our being.
Here is my prayer for 2018, I hope it will be your prayer too!
Holy and righteous God, my heavenly Father, please lead me to a deeper relationship with you. I want to know more about you. I also want to know you—your passion, your holiness, your might, your wisdom, and your grace. Please reveal more of yourself to me in my daily walk with you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
