I hate hell

I know why so many preachers and churches don’t talk about hell.  It is a despicable topic.  I just finished writing a sermon and in the text hell is mentioned.  I’m almost depressed.

I know why hell is considered a curse word by so many people, it is just that despicable. To say the word is just like cussing.  I remember a revival preacher who used that word in a sermon.  He was cursing too.  A friend of his asked him, “Why the hell do you want to go to Bible College?”  His answer was in the question… “Hell is why I want to go to Bible College!”

I understand why so many people (including Christians) drop the teaching and discussions of hell from their lips altogether.  Some even proclaim there is no hell, and avidly teach against it, saying something like, ”A loving God would not allow a place like hell to exist.”

I understand all these positions, because ‘hell’ is just that despicable.  But... but… but… a loving, all-wise Father in heaven has it in His book.  It doesn’t hurt me to question, wonder and even at times doubt, but it is not my place to change one iota of God’s Book.  It is my place to (and hopefully yours too) to accept it, believe it and yes preach it.  Oh, if you’re interested the passage that I just studied is II Thessalonians 1:3-10 and 2:1-11.
