I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging.  I don’t want to appear too “bullish on America”.  I don’t want anyone to think I’m prejudice, but (at the risk of all of these) I think America is one of God’s greatest gifts to this earth.  Of course the greatest gift is Jesus, but close to the top is America.

One quick review of the founding principles is all one needs to appreciate again what we have here in our land and history.

America’s Founding Fathers wanted to establish a new order of the ages, when they undertook the task of writing the United States Constitution. The reason it was a new order can be found in the Declaration of Independence—the foundation upon which the Constitution would be built. The proposition that “all men are created equal” was the basis for our government; likewise, to pronounce certain “rights” “inalienable,” such as those to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” meant that an objective standard of justice was to forever guide our experiment in self-government. In other words, it is the founding principles articulated in the Declaration that served, and continues to serve as, in the words of Thomas Paine, “an expression of the American mind”.

I hope the common “expression of the American mind” has not changed.  Today’s America  appears to be “less Christian” than it once was.  I believe that God influenced greatly our founding fathers with founding principles that are profoundly Christian.  The “new order” was simple, living out the principle taught by Jesus in the New Testament.   It wasn’t a law, it was the expression of the American mind!  Does your mind express it too?
